Help Wanted Ad

The last few weeks seem to be a never ending 'Help Wanted Ad'.
  • Seeking: anyone able to cut my toe nails because I can't bend over to cut them, let alone see them.
  • Looking for: capable person to put plates away on top shelf as I can't stretch high enough anymore.
  • Wanted: agile and quick person to run back up the stairs because I forgot the socks for my boys.

Oh, how funny it is that things that were so easy are now so hard. Of course, I am only familiar with the last few weeks of pregnancy with multiples. But, I assume every pregnant woman reaches this point at some time.

Anyone else with funny stories about things you used to be able to do and now can't do? Post your comments so we can all have a laugh.

The Real Stars

Many of you saw the clip of the family on ABC 7 News last night. For those of you who may have missed it, you can go to the ABC website and watch the clip on HealthBeat. I know the clip was supposed to be about the triplet girls, but I couldn't help but rewind the clip to watch Alexander and Nathan. Obviously I am biased, but they are so cute! They took the show.

After the news we received a number of calls, texts and emails related to the clip. I realized how fortunate we are to have such wonderful family, friends, co-workers and many others we don't even know supporting us. You all are the real stars!

With this much love surrounding us, nothing can go wrong.
Thanks again to all of you!

Just think.... 3 more weeks to go.

A day to remember

Yesterday's post included an important announcement - the newly scheduled date of the girls' c-section - December 3rd. We all have important dates to remember in our lives. Today is another important day, Veteran's Day. We honor our men and women who dedicated their lives to protecting ours. Because of these men and women we enjoy the freedoms that we have. I feel good knowing that my girls will be born into a great country.

Yesterday my mom and I went to the Healing Field of Honor at Rotary Hill in Naperville. We got a flag to pay tribute to my dad, Bob Mikols, for fighting for his country; we are so proud of him. We are also proud of my uncle, Armando Venegas, for he too was enlisted. They are just two examples of veteran's of this great country. The Healing Field is an amazing sight. Check out the link for more information. Attached is a picture of a section of the Field. This does not do it justice, so please stop by to see this amazing tribute.

The home stretch....

Today I had my 32 week doctor visit. Everything is going well with all three babies and mommy. This week was just a general check-up; no weights of the babies were given this time around.

However, we did schedule a c-section date for December 3rd. Almost appropriate since there are three little monkeys in there. Now all I have to do is make it three more weeks. But, if I keep resting it should not be a problem.

It is amazing how scheduling the date makes it all the more real. You would think that big belly alone would be enough, but sometimes the little things make the biggest impact.

Now that we feel we're in the home stretch, all of us (family, friends, Dave and I) are busier than ever getting last-minute details completed around the house. As you can imagine, I have a list of things that in my mind need to get done. For everyone else, it is a "sure, when we get to it" list. As us moms start nesting everything seems so important.

All in all though, this is just so fun - getting down to the wire. We can't wait for our little ones to arrive. Even though Alexander and Nathan do not quite understand it all yet, I know they will be excited when the girls arrive too.

Doctors' Visit - 31 weeks

Today I went to both of my doctor visits. The first was through Suburban Maternal Fetal Medicine and the second was with my OB at Terrace OB/GYN. I found out at SMFM (the specialty doctor) that all three girls are doing fine and are well over 3 pounds. We are doing well to make our goal of 34 - 36 weeks. I found out at the OB that even though I am only 31 weeks along, I am measuring at 50 weeks. This means that I am big - I mean really big. Thankfully it's mostly belly.

The picture of the baby (Samantha) and the picture of me having my ultrasound are from my doctor's visit at SMFM. The other picture above is of Joanne and Melissa from Terrace OB/GYN.

Make things easy and efficient or make them cost effective?

While I have a break in my day, I often ponder a number of things - as I am sure you can imagine. Today I went online to Peapod to order groceries for the week. I remember thinking how great a company like this is for someone like me. I can't shop - for that matter I can barely walk - so online grocery shopping is great. While this is a bit more expensive, it saves time.

I also ordered some more cloth diapers online today too (check out the link on the side). While using this type of diaper this takes a bit more time during the day (you have to change cloth ones a bit more often), the cost efficiencies gained are enormous. With five kids we can save anywhere from $18,000 - $22,000 over 3 years. Also, it's a great feeling to "go green".

So, I guess the moral of my little "pondering" story today is to take the good with the bad - weigh out your options. You may save a little time here, but spend more - while with a different item you will save a little money but take up a bit more time. Oh, if only there was one easy answer. But, then again, life might be boring.

Sleep? Who needs sleep?

Well, last night was not so great. I think I overdid it during the day and suffered the consequences last night. I was in considerable pain - more muscle pain than anything. So, while the boys are off playing and having fun at my aunt and uncle's home, I thought I might try to get some sleep today. WRONG!

The second I went to bed, baby A (Emma), started hiccupping. What does that mean to me? Well, it's like someone poking you in the arm and saying "mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom - will you pay attention to me"? Except that it is in my belly and is a constant bump, bump, bump. A little bit hard to sleep with that going on.

Other than the lack of sleep - which is a product of twins and triplets anyway once they are born - today seems like it will be a good relaxing day. I may even have an opportunity to make dinner before the boys get home.
